Fleet decarbonisation and charging infrastructure guide

Start decarbonising your fleet and understanding charging infrastructure today.

Why do we need to decarbonise transport?

Domestic transport accounts for 31% of all greenhouse gas emissions in Scotland – the largest of any sector. Vehicles are becoming cleaner, emitting fewer carbon emission equivalents (CO2e) per mile than they were previously.

Compared to other sources of pollution, transport pollution is particularly harmful because it pollutes the air with nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and particulate matter (particularly PM10 and 2.5). Air pollution in the UK is linked to 40,000 deaths a year (Royal College of Physicians, 2016).

Why do you need to decarbonise your fleet?

Every public, private or third sector organisation has a part to play in reducing the transport sector’s emissions. This can be done by avoiding larger than necessary vehicles and switching to electric vehicles.

If you are a public sector organisation, you will need to develop plans to replace all your internal combustion engine (ICE) cars with zero emission vehicles (ZEVs) by the target date of 2025. Public sector organisations might be able to access discounts to substantially reduce ZEV costs.

This guide can be used to support your organisation’s transition to a low carbon fleet. It includes sector wide recommendations from research and provides case studies as examples of implementation.
