Context of the guide
The decarbonisation of fleets will require a radical rethink of how fleets are operated, and the vehicle technologies used; this is a demanding and challenging task for fleet managers. The Scottish public sector (and fleet managers in general) therefore need the best possible advice and support to help them successfully meet this challenge. We recognised that creating A central advice resource once created would allow both ourselves, and partners such as Transport Scotland, to easily point stakeholders towards this advice repository for support. We could then focus our efforts on maintaining, updating, and developing new advice to ensure that it continues to be an ongoing useful resource for fleet managers. The website also complements our existing fleet decarbonisation forum sessions and our bespoke fleet decarbonisation support activity – together these form a powerful advice delivery and knowledge-sharing model.
The fleet decarbonisation toolkit was launched in 2024. If you’re interested, you can join our quarterly fleet decarbonisation forums. Contact us for more information: fleetdecarb@est.org.uk
How was it developed?
The guidance material contained within the ‘fleet toolkit’ is the culmination of a decade’s worth of experience developing fleet decarbonisation advice and support for public and private sector fleets across the UK. Our key fleet advice topics have evolved and developed through time as technology has advanced, new solutions have been developed, thinking has progressed, and important insights have been collected from fleet managers. We traditionally delivered this advice through bespoke fleet decarbonisation reports produced for individual organisations. To produce the fleet toolkit, we harvested the key advice material from our back catalogue of fleet decarbonisation reports, bringing it all into one user-friendly and easily navigable place.
